Government Program Offers Homeowners Cash to Upgrade Water Heaters

A heat pump water heater reduces operating costs for a household of four by around $550 per year. If that sounds tempting, now is an excellent time to invest in one of these devices, as the Inflation Reduction Act incentivizes such home energy efficiency improvements.

For example, you could qualify for a heat pump water heater for up to $1,750 through the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program. Additionally, you can claim up to 30% of the cost of installing your heat pump (up to $2,000) through the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit program. This tax credit is available until 2032.
