Best Places to Swim in Pittsburgh

Summer is upon us, bringing thoughts of cookouts, cocktails and outdoor play. But what about when you just need to beat the heat? Splish-splash in some of the best places to swim in Pittsburgh! The area is home to more than its fair share of watery retreats that are just the ticket to relaxation.

Citiparks

The City of Pittsburgh maintains 18 public outdoor pools across the region, open to all ages during the summer months. With both open swim (1 – 4:45 p.m., all ages) and family swim (4:45 – 7:45 p.m., 15 and under with chaperone) options, swimmer comfort and safety are top priorities. Little tykes can’t swim yet? There are a few free swim class sessions throughout the summer, too!

Sandcastle

A family-friendly summer staple, Sandcastle is your destination for water slide fun in the South Hills. Catering to all ages, the West Mifflin park boasts the Tad Pool, a wading pool for the smallest of swimmers, as well as Wet Willie’s Water Works, a splash pool complete with fountains and geysers. For older children and adults, tube slides like Thunder Run and Tubers Tower are a blast. Still more, diehard thrillseekers may opt for the steepest and fastest body slides, like the 60-foot Lighting Express or Boardwalk Blasters.

Rivers Club

If a posh, members-only experience is more your style, Rivers Club has you covered. An adults-only club for professionals, the locale features an Olympic-sized indoor pool as just one of the various amenities to complement mainstay membership benefits like networking, athletic club activities and fine dining. Wind down after a board meeting with a few laps!

Skybar

Cocktails and a relaxing swim without the pool maintenance? Sign us up! Skybar is Pittsburgh’s only rooftop bar and pool, making it a unique experience unto itself–complete with a cityscape view! Jump on in and enjoy the crowd, or kick back in your own private cabana while sipping your favorite beverage–Skybar lets you customize your experience. And if you have a summertime event approaching, you can have it here, too! Event amenities include DJ entertainment, full bar and catering options. Book today.
